New Life Wins $25,000 Grant to Launch New Life Culinary Arts Teaching Kitchen.
New Life of NYC has been awarded a $25,000 community grant at Hope for New York’s 2025 Pitch Night!
This grant will help launch the New Life Culinary Arts Teaching Kitchen — a hands-on program designed to address food insecurity and introduce teens to real career pathways in the culinary arts.
The funds will support building our brand-new teaching kitchen at our Ludlow Street location. Once completed, the kitchen will become a vibrant learning space where youth ages 12–18 can explore practical cooking skills, nutrition, and teamwork — all through engaging experiences like Iron Chef-style competitions, creative meal planning, and culinary labs.
The New Life Culinary Arts Teaching Kitchen is more than a kitchen—it's a launchpad for growth, confidence, and opportunity. Participants will not just learn how to cook but also gain tools for life, career, and community impact.
Dr. Richard Hoffman, Executive Director of New Life, shared:
“This grant allows us to bring a long-held dream to life — a space where teens can learn, lead, and nourish both themselves and their communities.”
We’re deeply grateful to Hope for New York, everyone who voted for our pitch, and our incredible supporters who continue to believe in the power of youth development through creative, career-connected programming.
This is just the beginning of the New Life Culinary Arts Teaching Kitchen — and we can’t wait to keep you updated as the vision takes shape.

The Inspiring Journey of Art and Community
Joining New Life has been an inspiring journey, offering more than just art programs—it’s provided a sense of community, meaningful relationships, and personal growth. Creating art has become a calming and enjoyable passion, fueled by the support of staff and members. Beyond art, the friendships and uplifting environment make New Life truly special, bringing joy and gratitude into my life.

New Life of NYC Hosts Fencing Class
In May, New Life of NYC hosted their very first fencing class, and it was a huge success! To make the experience even more special, a professional fencer was invited to lead the session.
Participants got hands-on training in proper fencing techniques, learning the basics of footwork, stance, and how to handle a foil with precision. The class also dived into the rich tradition of the sport, including the proper etiquette for dueling that’s been practiced for centuries. It was an exciting and energizing day filled with laughs, learning, and plenty of action.
